401 Pledge: Say the words
The goal of this pledge is to ensure that the unprecedented momentum toward equal justice that we are witnessing today results in real and specific changes. The 401 Pledge is also a confirmation that there is an urgency to ending structural racism once and for all.
I acknowledge the truth. 401 years of slavery, racial terror, segregation, economic oppression and mass incarceration have created vast inequalities in health, wealth, education and justice in America.
As a leader, over the next 401 days and beyond, I will make it my priority to strike down any public policy or private practice that prevents equal opportunity for all Americans. I pledge to uphold our nation’s promise of liberty and justice for all including the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
I will hold myself accountable and regularly report my efforts and successes in honoring this pledge.
